Meet Miss Kayla

Kayla Durham is a dance instructor at InnerRhythms with a passion for teaching and sharing her love of dance with others. Born and raised in Coos Bay, Oregon, Kayla started dancing at the age of 6 at the Pacific School of Dance, where she studied Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Pointe. In high school, she competed on a precision funk, jazz, and hip hop dance team. Kayla went on to major in Fashion Design with a minor in Modern Dance at the University of Oregon. During her time there, she studied Dance history and rhythm fundamentals and performed on the college dance team, Urban Pulse, a Hip Hop and Jazz team. With a studio and competitive dance background, Kayla lived in Los Angeles, where she completed a work-study program at Millennium Dance Complex. Since 2015, she has been teaching dance and sharing her love of the art form with students of all ages. Kayla taught creative movement and beginning ballet at a nonprofit dance studio, The Aspire Project, in Portland, OR. During her time there, she helped the studio grow to 500 students. Recently, Kayla has been a dancer for the Reno Empire, a traveling dance group that performs at Latin dance festivals. Kayla has been teaching at InnerRhythms since 2020 and currently teaches creative movement, beginning ballet, beginning hip hop, jazz, and contemporary. She believes in the power of dance to inspire, heal, and connect people, and she brings that philosophy into her teaching style. Kayla loves to create a positive, welcoming, and fun environment where students can feel comfortable expressing themselves through dance
