These summer workshops introduce Ballet students to the famous choreography of Ballets including Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Coppelia and others. Each day, the workshop will include a technical Ballet barre warm up and strength training. The remainder of each class will be spent learning and rehearsing the variation work. The Friday class will culminate in an optional in studio demo where family and friends are invited. Participation in this workshop is designed to challenge and expand the dancer’s artistry and technique, and is open to intermediate and up Ballet dancers only. Learn, create and find your inner dancer!

Meet Jennifer Couch

With a focus on strong technique, Jennifer encourages creative movement, musicality, and personal expression in both her teaching and choreography. She is a growth-oriented instructor, creating a positive, energetic, safe, and collaborative environment in which a dancer is most likely to thrive.

“I believe that dancers should be versatile and that means being exposed to different styles of Ballet and multiple teachers. I want my dancers to be prepared for what comes next, whether it be an audition or dropping in to a take a class in a big city. Exposure to the many unique disciplines of Ballet is an invaluable part of becoming a strong, versatile dancer.

“I strive to create fundamentally interesting dancers with strong classical technique. To paraphrase Alonzo King, while solid technique is a must, how that technique illuminates is foremost.”

Background: Jennifer began dancing at the age of 3 and has trained extensively in Ballet, Modern and Jazz. She studied Ballet with Ruth Mitchell Dance Theater and the Atlanta Ballet, and was a member of the Georgia Ballet under the direction of Iris Hensley. She attended the University of Georgia where she studied dance performance and choreography.

Before moving to Truckee, she was the Facility Manager at Alonzo King Lines Dance Center in San Francisco. Here she continued training with LeeWei Chao, Arturo Fernandez, Robert Moses, Laura Bernasconi, Carmen Rozestraten, Enrico Labayen, Cecilia Marta, Alonzo King and others.

Jennifer received teacher training at Pacific Northwest Ballet, is trained in Mat Pilates, Progressing Ballet Technique, and Zena Rommett Floor-Barre. She has also trained with Dance Physiotherapist Lisa Howell, pointe shoe fitter Josephine Lee, and coaches for YAGP and various competition teams.

She has been teaching intermediate and advanced Ballet, Pointe and Variation classes for 18+ years. She currently teaches at various studios in the Lake Tahoe and Reno area for pre-teens, teens and adults.
