Kevin McKechnie

Truckee Fire Cheif

Kevin McKechnie was appointed to the position of Fire Chief for the Truckee Fire Protection District in July of 2022. His appointment to Fire Chief culminated a decades long Tango through all the roles and ranks of the Fire District; starting as a volunteer firefighter in 2001, through firefighter/paramedic, fire captain, battalion chief and fire marshal. Chief McKechnie claims firefighting as his second career having first Waltzed as a Civil Engineer all over the state highway system for Caltrans. Classical skills were honed at the prestigious Chico State, well known for the stumbling stupor out of the Madison Bear Garden. Prior to Chico, the Chief claims his heritage as a proud Truckee Wolverine, Class of 1988, where exploits were legendary and most of his best moves were violent hits on the gridiron of Surprise Stadium. When Chief McKechnie is not engaged in a seductive samba with a fire hose, he enjoys motorcycling, mountain biking, boating, and spending time with his wife Wendy and sons Carter and Brody. “My wife and kids have been so good to me, I hope my bad dancing won’t tarnish their good reputation, however embarrassing myself for a good cause is a privilege and I thank you for the opportunity!”

Come cheer me on and cast your vote in person at Dancing with Our Sierra Stars on May 11 at 6:00pm at the Truckee Rec Center!
